Winterfest is part of the Winter Outings Series– outdoor events January into March!

Free Family Fun at Winterfest!

Activities being planned include: XC skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding, kids crafts, educational displays, guided hike/snowshoe excursions on a number of topics, educational programs, interactive demonstrations and more!

2025 Events:

Ice Skating (10am-3pm) *

Enjoy a natural ice rink with limited free ice skates for most ages/sizes.

Sledding (10am-3pm) *  

Bring your own or borrow a snow tube from a limited number provided.

Bluebird Box Building (11am-1pm – or until they’re gone) 

 Each family can build a box and take it home (free while they last!). Limited quantities. Led by PA Game Commission staff. 

Winter Tree ID Hikes (10:30-11:30am & 1:30-2:30pm)  

Explore nearby park trails and learn to identify several trees even without their leaves.

Lumber Camp Skills (11am-2pm) 

Learn about life at a lumber camp in winter and get hands-on with some essential lumber tools with staff from the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum.

Solar Viewing (10am-2pm) *  

Join members of the PA Wilds Astronomy Club for safe viewing of the sun through specially equipped telescopes. 

Kids Crafts (11am-1pm) 

 Families will enjoy a ‘make and take’ craft from several options, including the ever-popular pine cone bird feeder. All materials provided. Led by park volunteers.

Search & Rescue Dogs (10am-2pm)  

Meet the dogs & owners involved with Laurel Mountain K9 Search & Rescue, a non-profit search team comprised entirely of volunteers dedicated to assisting fire, EMS and law enforcement agencies on incidents involving lost or missing individuals.

Winter Teas Program (Noon -1pm)  

Stop by a table display to discover what can you use from nature to make a warming winter beverage. Taste samples of wild foraged teas, and take home recipe handouts. Tea samples available while supplies last.

XC Ski & Snowshoe Mini-clinic / Sign-outs (1pm-3pm) *  

Join park staff and volunteers for a short hands-on mini-clinic (snow-permitting) and then practice your skiing or snowshoeing at your own pace. Snowshoes, skis, boots and poles on-hand will fit most youth through adult (or you are welcome to bring your own).

 Enjoy hot chocolate and hot dogs – FREE - while they last!

Don’t forget your sled!
